C. Bondage in the Flesh
by the Indwelling Sin
1. Two Husbands
1 Or are you ignorant, brothers (for I speak to those who know the law), that the 1law lords it over the man as long as he lives?
2 For the married woman is bound by the 1law to her 2husband while he is living; but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the 1law regarding the husband.
3 So then if, while the husband is living, she is joined to 1another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress, though she is joined to 1another man.
4 So then, my brothers, 1you also ahave been made dead to the law through the body of Christ so that 1you might be 2joined to banother, to Him who has been raised from the dead, that we might 3bear fruit to God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the passions for sins, which acted through the law, operated in our members to bear fruit to death.
6 But now we have been 1discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held, so that we 2serve in 3newness of 4spirit and not in oldness of letter.
