5. The Beginning of the Persecution by the Jewish Religionists
a. The Arrest and Inquiry by the Sanhedrin
1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the 1acaptain of the temple and the 2bSadducees came upon them,
2 Being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and announcing 1in Jesus the aresurrection from the dead.
3 And they alaid their hands on them and placed them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.
4 But many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of men came to about five athousand.
5 And on the next day their rulers and elders and scribes were 1gathered together in Jerusalem,
6 As well as Annas the high priest and 1aCaiaphas and 2John and Alexander and as many as were of high-priestly descent.
7 And they stood them in the midst and inquired, 1By what power or in what name did you do this?
