Advanced Search Tips Example

Search Tips:

  1. "with all of these words:"

    Each result must contain all the input words. The words can also end with an asterisk (*).

    Restriction: It cannot be used together with textbox 5.

    Example:
    Input: Lord Jesus Chri*
    Result:

    Acts 2:36

    36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both 1aLord and bChrist, this Jesus whom 2you have ccrucified.

  2. "with at least one of these words:"

    Each result contains at least one of the input words. The words can end with an asterisk (*).

    Restriction: It cannot be used together with textbox 5.

    Example:
    Input: Lord Jesus Chri*
    Result:

    Matthew 1:1

    1 The book of the ageneration of 1Jesus 2bChrist, the 3cson of David, the 4dson of Abraham:

  3. "without these words:"

    Each result must not contain the words. The words can end with an asterisk (*).

    Restriction: It must be used together with 1, 2, or 4, and not with 5, 6, or 8.

    Example:
    Input: bapti* with Lord Jesus Christ in 2
    Result:

    Matthew 1:1 (Outline)

    Time of Writing: Approximately A.D. 37-40, shortly after the Lord's resurrection (28:15) and prior to the destruction of the temple (24:2).

  4. "with this exact phrase:"

    Each result must contain the exact input phrase.

    Restriction: It cannot be used together with 5, 6, or 8.

    Example:
    Input: Lord Jesus Christ
    Result:

    Acts 11:17

    17 If therefore God has given to them the equal agift bas also to us who have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, cwho was I that I could have forbidden God?

  5. "with these words in order:"

    Each result must contain all the input words with exactly the same sequence.

    Restriction: It allows not more than three words to be searched in verse or footnote only, and does not work with 1~4 or 6~8 either.

    Example:
    Input: God Lord
    Result:

    Matthew 16:22

    22 And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, God be merciful to You, Lord! This shall by 1no means happen to You!

  6. "Case sensitive:"

    If "on" were selected, the results must match the case of the first character of each input word. If "off" were selected (default), the result may or may not match the case.

    Restriction: The case sensitive search can be used in 1 or 2 with not more than three words in each textbox, and within "verse" only. It cannot be used with textbox 3~5 and function 7~8.

    Example:
    Input: spirit Spirit in 1, case sensitive is "on"
    Result:

    John 3:6

    6 That which is aborn 1of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born 1of the 2Spirit is 2spirit.

  7. "Stemming words:"

    The words with the same root are called "stemming words". Example: "baptize", "baptized", "baptizing", and "baptizes"; are the stemming words of "baptize". If "on" were selected here, results containning any stemming words of the input words will be returned; if "off" were selected (default), only the results that exactly match the input words will be returned.

    Restriction: This function cannot be used together with textbox 5 and function 6 and 8.

    Example:
    Input: baptize in 1, stemming words is "on"
    Result:

    Matthew 3:6

    6 And they were 1abaptized by him in the 2bJordan River as they cconfessed their sins.

  8. "Words contain:"

    Results with specified footnotes or cross-references information will be returned.

    Restriction: It works in 1 and 2 with not more than three words in each textbox, and only within "verse". It cannot be used together with textbox 3~5 and function 6~7.

    Example:
    Input: God in 1, select "footnotes and cross-reference"
    Result:

    John 1:1

    1 1aIn the beginning was the 2bWord, and the Word was 3with God, and the 4Word was 5cGod.

  9. "From:"

    Specify the first book to begin the search.

  10. "to"

    Specify the last book to end the search.

  11. "Results per page:"

    Specify how many result sets will be displayed on one page.

  12. "Search in:"

    Specify the field of searching: within "verses" or "footnotes" or "outlines" or "all" of them.

  13. Search button

    Click "Search" to perform your search.

  14. Reset button

    Click "Reset" to clear any information entered into the search form
